My husband is a big fan of matcha green tea. During our visit to Japan, I bought some authentic matcha powder along with bamboo bowls, cups, a spoon, a bamboo matcha whisk, and a few chopsticks. We also took a matcha-making class in Kyoto, which made me even more excited to recreate the experience at home. While matcha is traditionally prepared without sweeteners, I sometimes add a hint of palm sugar or honey when my husband prefers a slightly sweeter taste.
we learnt that Matcha , a finely ground powder made from specially grown green tea leaves.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder (about 5 grams)
1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water (about 80°C ,not boiling ,boiling water can make the tea taste bitter)
Tools:
Matcha whisk (chasen) or a small regular whisk
Matcha bowl (chawan) or a small bowl
Instructions:
Sift the matcha powder
To avoid clumps, sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a matcha bowl or in a small bowl. Shifting makes smoother tea.
Boil the water
Boil some water, then let it cool slightly. Matcha is best prepared with water around 80°C or 175°F) to preserve its delicate flavors.
Add water to the matcha
Pour tablespoon of hot water into the bowl in the matcha powder and mix to form a smooth paste.
Whisk the matcha
Once the paste is smooth, pour the rest of the hot water (about 1/2 cup) into the matcha bowl. Use a matcha whisk (or a small whisk) and whisk for a minute in a zigzag motion until the tea becomes frothy on top.
Serve
Matcha is now ready to drink!
Add little palm sugar , if like sweeter.
Enjoy the vibrant, health-boosting cup of matcha with little palm sugar.
